Is it safe to take CBD with other medication?

CBD and medication

Although CBD is considered very safe and has few, if any, negative side effects, it can influence the behaviour and side effects of some other medications.

CBD is metabolised by the cytochrome P450 enzymes in the liver, and at higher doses can inhibit the metabolising effects of these enzymes on other medication. Other medication also metabolised by CYP450, such as blood thinners like Warfarin, some anti-depressants and even some sedatives, could stay in the body for longer periods, resulting in a build-up of activity and an increase in side effects from the medication.

It is essential that those taking chronic medication consult with their prescribing physician to find out how best to incorporate CBD into their lifestyle.

Most people who use CBD successfully find they can greatly reduce or even eliminate their chronic medication as they increase their CBD dosage.
